Why Friction?

Behavior is visible only after the field has already constrained possible trajectories. SFI observes the restriction layer: the zone between declared intention, available energy, environmental resistance and actual movement.

Observation precedes intervention. Prediction precedes certainty. Evidence precedes authority.

The Primary Gap

The primary object is not suffering, success, failure or motivation. The primary object is the gap between what a system declares and what its trajectory can sustain.

Against Premature Intervention

Most failed interventions occur because the operator attempts to correct the visible behavior before identifying the energetic state, hidden gain and response friction of the field.

Institutional Position

Definition

A Fenotype of Friction is a relatively stable observable pattern of response under minimal perturbation. It is inferred from language, delay, bodily signal, contradiction, field response and post-intervention trajectory.

A phenotyping statement never says what a person is. It describes how a friction pattern is currently organized.

Limitations

This instrument is not a clinical diagnosis, medical evaluation or substitute for professional mental health care. Its function is operational and research-oriented: to record friction patterns, formulate hypotheses and test minimal perturbations longitudinally.

All values, classifications and phenotypes in early cases must be treated as provisional until the Atlas contains enough contrast to evaluate predictive reliability.
